FURMAN WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS 1-0 TO UAB

CLEMSON, SC-Jill Knottek scored the game's lone goal in leading Alabama-Birmingham to a 1-0 win over Furman in the first game of the Clemson Women's Soccer Invitational at Clemson, SC Friday evening.

Alabama-Birmingham now has a 2-1 record overall, and Furman drops to 1-2 overall this season.

Jenny Rynders sent a pass to Knottek who rifled a shot from 12 yards out into the goal. This was her first goal of the season. The time of the goal was 62:36.

"UAB outplayed us today," said Furman head coach Brian Lee. "Their effort was better then ours, their passing was better, their trapping was better, their teamwork was better, and their communication was better. This is the type of match that we needed to find a way to win and we certainly did not do that today."

Alabama-Birmingham will play Clemson on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. while Furman will play Texas at 1:00 p.m. in the second and final day of the Tournament.
