FURMAN WOMEN'S SOCCER CONCLUDES COLLEGE PORTION OF SPRING SCHEDULE

GREENVILLE - The Furman women's soccer team concluded the college opponents portion of its spring schedule with a 4-2 victory over 12th ranked Tennessee on Saturday.

Leading the way for the Lady Paladins were goal scorers Alice Martin, Kate Johnson, Kaylan Pedine, and Kelly Shedd. After a scoreless first half, Furman took a quick 2-0 lead on goals by Martin and Johnson. After the Lady Vols pulled to within 2-1, Pedine and Shedd extended Furman's lead to 4-1. Tennessee scored its second goal in the match's final minute.

"I have been very pleased with our performance this spring," said Furman head coach Brian Lee. "We fared well in the college portion of our spring schedule, especially in the match against Tennessee. UT is one of the best teams in the country and they have had a great spring season as well. We put it all together in that match and showed what we are capable of doing."

Furman tallied a 2-1-1 record this spring as it also defeated Presbyterian College 3-0, tied Marquette 0-0, and lost 2-0 to Duke. The Lady Paladins will conclude its spring season with an April 22 match against a St. Giles club boys team and an April 25 match against the Peachtree City Lazers club girls team. The annual alumni match will be held May 1.
