FURMAN'S ANDRE'A MORRISON NAMED TIAA-CREF SOUTHERN CONFERENCE STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

GREENVILLE - Furman Lady Paladin soccer standout Andre'a Morrison has been named the TIAA-CREF Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week the league office announced on Wednesday.

Morrison, a native of Kernersville, N.C., led Furman to back-to-back wins over Elon and Davidson this past week, scoring two goals in both matches. Her four-goal performance for the week gives her a team-leading 10 goals on the season and seven in her last three matches. The forward posted a three-goal outing in a 6-1 win over Western Carolina on October 15.

Morrison currently ranks second in the Southern Conference in goals scored, second in points (24) and tenth in assists (4). She has tallied nine goals in Furman's last nine SoCon contests.

A sophomore from Kernersville, NC (East Forsyth HS), Morrison carries a 3.23 GPA, and she has yet to declare a major. For the past two years she has taken part in the women’s soccer program’s service project, mentoring a high school student and interacting with residents at a local nursing home.

The sophomore was named Southern Conference Player of the Week for women's soccer on Tuesday.

TIAA-CREF, with $290 billion in assets under management (8/31/03), is a Fortune 100 company and a diversified national financial services organization, including the premier pension system for educational and research employees.

Furman, 11-4-2 overall and 8-0-1 in the Southern Conference, returns to action tonight when they host Wofford in a 7:00p.m. contest at Eugene Stone Soccer Stadium The Lady Paladins play their regular season finale at Appalachian State on Firday.
