FURMAN WOMEN'S SOCCER OPENS SEASON AT MICHIGAN STATE

GREENVILLE - The Furman women's soccer team will open its 2003 season when it travels to East Lansing, Mich., to take on Michigan State Friday in a 4:00 p.m. contest.

"Our team is looking forward to getting started," said Furman head coach Brian Lee. "Michigan State is a quality opponent and we will find out how we stack up early on."

The Lady Paladins topped Michigan State 1-0 in the regular season finale last season in Greenville. Emily Turgeon scored a late goal to give Furman its second win all-time against a top 25 opponent. The Spartans entered last season's match ranked 25th.

Furman finished last season 16-6-1, including a 10-0 mark in regular season league play. Furman has currently won four consecutive regular season Southern Conference titles and is the defending tournament champion.

The Lady Paladins open the home portion of their 2003 schedule by hosting Rhode Island in the Select Kickoff Classic on September 12, at 7:30 p.m.
