FURMAN'S KAT KELLEY NAMED SOUTHERN CONFERENCE WOMEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK

GREENVILLE - Furman sophomore Kat Kelley has been named Southern Conference Player of the Week the league office announced on Tuesday.

Kelley, a native of Raleigh, N.C., netted two goals in a 5-4 double overtime win against regionally-ranked Rhode Island in the first match of Furmanšs Select Kickoff Classic on Friday. Her goal at the 107:50 mark in the second overtime was the game-winner for the Lady Paladins.

"This is a great honor for Kat," said Furman head coach Brian Lee. "She stepped up to score a pair of tremendous goals for us this weekend."

Kelley's first tally of the match came in the first half when the midfielder, with her back to the goal, flicked a Kate Johnson pass into the far corner of the net to help Furman rally from a 3-1 deficit.

The Lady Paladins, 3-4-0 on the season, travel to face Southern Conference foe Georgia Southern Thursday afternoon.
