FURMAN WOMEN'S SOCCER DEFEATS GEORGIA SOUTHERN 2-1

STATESBORO, GA - The Furman women's soccer team defeated Georgia Southern 2-1 Thursday in Statesboro, Ga., to claim its 15th consecutive victory over a Southern Conference opponent.

After a scoreless first half, Furman's Andre'a Morrison scored off an assist from Stacy Simpson at the 56:15 mark to put the Lady Paladins on top 1-0. Georgia Southern evened the score at the 69:39 mark on an own goal.

Sophomore Kat Kelley then scored the game winner at the 77:41 mark off an assist from Danielle Petro to give the Lady Paladins the victory. Kelley, the Southern Conference Women's Soccer Player-of-the-Week last week, scored her second game-winning goal in less than a week. Kelley also score the overtime game-winner against Rhode Island last weekend.

"Any time you can come away with a road conference win, it's a good thing," said Furman head coach Brian Lee. "But we still have some work to do to get to where we want to be this season."

The win moves Furman to 4-4 on the season, 2-0 in the Southern Conference. The Lady Paladins will now have a rare 10-day break before they face ETSU in Johnson City, Tenn., on September 28.
