FURMAN WOMEN'S SOCCER TEAM TOPS ETSU 2-1 IN OT

JOHNSON CITY, TN .-- Kat Kelley scored her third game-winning goal in the last four matches and she scored 3:56 into the first overtime period to lift the Furman women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Southern Conference foe East Tennessee State Sunday afternoon.

After a scoreless first half, Lady Paladin senior Emily Turgeon drilled a shot from 25 yards out over ETSU keeper Heather Sanden after receiving a ball from Erin Sanders.

Furman's lead was shortlived, though, as the Lady Bucs scored 25 seconds later when Alexandria Schwark found the back of the net off an assist from Katherine Gentry.

Kelley's overtime game winner came as Andrea Morrison took the ball down the right sideline and crossed the ball to the six-yard box, where Kelley finished the play. Kelley also scored the game-winner in a 2-1 win over Georgia Southern on September 18 and the overtime game-winner in a 5-4 victory over Rhode Island on September 12.

Furman controlled the possession much of the match and outshot ETSU 25-11 on the afternoon.

"Southern Conference road matches are always tough," said Furman head coach Brian Lee. "ETSU played with great heart and determination and we were happy to be able to show the character to get the job done in the end. Kat Kelley seems to have the ability to come through when we need her to score goals."

Furman improves to 5-4 on the season, 3-0 in the Southern Conference. ETSU falls to 6-2, 1-1 in the league. Furman has now won 16 straight Southern Conference matches.
