FURMAN WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO NO. 23 DAYTON 1-0

GREENVILLE - The Furman women's soccer team lost 1-0 to 23rd ranked Dayton Sunday afternoon in the final match of the Select Kickoff Classic Presented by Land Rover at Eugene Stone Soccer Stadium.

After a scoreless first half, Daytonıs Shannon Kuhl scored the match's lone goal early in the second half at the 48:52 mark.

Furman outshot Dayton 13-11 on the afternoon, but could not find a goal after scoring 10 goals in its last two contests.

"I was not pleased with our effort today," said Furman head coach Brian Lee. "We came out here and showed little emotion, little fight, and ultimately got beat by a team that today was definitely better than us."

Furman falls to 3-4 on the season and will open its Southern Conference schedule on the road at Georgia Southern on Thursday afternoon. The Lady Paladins will put a 14-match Southern Conference win streak on the line when it faces the Lady Eagles. Dayton improves to 4-1-1.

Furman's Kat Kelley and Kate Johnson earned all-tournament team honors along with Dayton's Beth McHugh, Stacy DeLuca, and Nina DiGuardi.

Clemson's Sarah Turner was named the Defensive MVP of the Select Kickoff Classic and Clemson's Courtney Foster earned Offensive MVP honors. Also earning all-tournament spots were Clemson's Paige Ledford and Allison Mitchell and Rhode Islandıs Sarah Johnston and Kelly McTurk.
