FURMAN WOMEN'S SOCCER BLANKS THE CITADEL 5-0

CHARLESTON, SC -- The Furman women's soccer team defeated The Citadel 5-0 in its Southern Conference opener Tuesday afternoon. Emily Turgeon scored twice to lead the Lady Paladins to their second victory of the season.

Danielle Petro put Furman on the board at the 9:00 mark off a double assist from Emily Turgeon and Andre'a Morrison. Turgeon then scored two minutes later off a rebound of her own shot at the 11:14 mark.

Erin Sanders outran the Lady Bulldog defense and scored an unassisted goal at the 36:46 mark to give Furman the 3-0 halftime lead.

Andre'a Morrison scored early in the second half our Furman ahead 4-0 and Emily Turgeon added her second goal of the afternoon at the 80:50 mark.

"It was good to get another win under our belt," said Furman head coach Brian Lee. "We are hosting two very strong teams this weekend and will be tested extensively by Rhode Island and Dayton. We had some strong performances this afternoon."

Furman improves to 2-3 on the season and 1-0 in the Southern Conference. Furman claims its 14th consecutive SoCon victory with the win. The Lady Paladins will host the Select Kickoff Classic Presented by Land Rover this weekend. Furman takes on Rhode Island at 7:30 Friday night and Dayton at 3:00 Sunday afternoon.
