FURMAN WOMEN'S SOCCER OPENS SOCON TOURNAMENT

GREENVILLE -- The Furman women's soccer team will open the 2002 Southern Conference Women's Soccer Tournament on Thursday against ETSU in Greensboro, N.C.

The Lady Paladins enter the contest riding an eight match winning streak and is the No. 1 seed in the SoCon Tournament after finishing the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record. Furman is fresh of a 1-0 victory over 25th ranked Michigan State last week.

Furman is led offensively by Emily Turgeon who has scored 15 goals on the year, while goalkeeper Andie Hinshaw has a 1.08 GAA and seven solo shutouts.

ETSU is the eight seed and sports a 3-6-1 conference record and a 6-10-1 overall mark. If Furman defeats ETSU, the Lady Paladins would play the winner of Davidson-UNCG on Saturday at Noon. The SoCon final is slated for 1:00 on Sunday.

"I am excited about the way we are playing heading into the SoCon Tournament," said Furman head coach Brian Lee. "I am looking forward to a great tournament. It's not going to be easy to win three games in four days, though. There are a number of other teams who are playing good soccer right now in our conference."
