FURMAN WOMEN'S SOCCER OPENS NCAA TOURNAMENT IN KNOXVILLE

GREENVILLE -- The Furman women's soccer team will face Tennessee Friday night at 8:00 p.m. in the first round of the NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Tournament. Tickets are $7 for adults and $3 for children.

The Lady Paladins enter the match on an 11 match winning streak as they claimed the Southern Conference Women's Soccer Tournament Championship last weekend with a 3-0 victory over College of Charleston. Furman enters the NCAA Tournament with a 16-5-1 overall record and is making its third appearance in the NCAA Tournament in four years.

Tennessee, ranked 12th in the latest Soccer America poll, also sport a 16-5-1 overall record. The Lady Vols defeated Florida in double overtime last weekend to claim the SEC Tournament Championship. Furman is seeking its first-ever NCAA Tournament victory.

"Tennessee is an excellent team and will give us quite a test," said Furman head coach Brian Lee. "They are the 12th ranked team in the nation for a reason, but I am looking forward to competing against them. We are playing better soccer right now then we were at the beginning of the season when we suffered all five of our losses. It should be a very interesting match-up tomorrow night."

The winner of the Furman-Tennessee match will play the winner of the Kentucky-Cincinnati contest, scheduled for Friday at 5:30 p.m. Kentucky enters the NCAA Tournament with an 11-8 record, while Cincinnati is 16-3-3 and fresh off the Conference USA Tournament Championship.
