FURMAN'S NANCY MATHER SELECTED TO ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAM

GREENVILLE, SC -- Furman senior Nancy Mather was selected to the Verizon Academic All-District III Women's Soccer team, it was announced on Thursday.

Mather, a senior from Atlanta, Ga., has a 3.71 grade point average as a Religion and Sociology major.

Mather transferred to Furman from Michigan following her sophomore season in 1999. She started at defender during the 2000 season, helping Furman to a 20-3 record and an NCAA Tournament appearance. She missed the 2001 campaign with a broken foot and has returned to help lead Furman's defense this season.

Mather has started all 20 contests for Furman this season and has six assists on the year. She was named to the All-Southern Conference second team on Thursday.

Mather was also a 2000 NSCAA Scholar Athlete All-Southeast region selection.

"Nancy is a special person," said Furman head coach Brian Lee. "She is a great example of a true student-athlete. Nancy is a great leader and has meant a lot to our team over the three years that she has been here."
