FURMAN WOMEN'S SOCCER LANDS GEORGIA PREPSTER

GREENVILLE, SC -- Furman women's soccer coach Brian Lee announced the signing of Kate Johnson to a National Letter-of-Intent on Wednesday.

Kate Johnson is a defender from Alpharetta, Ga., where she attends Milton High School. Johnson helped lead Milton High School to a No. 4 ranking on Georgia in 2002. Johnson is a member of the GSA Œ85 Phoenix Red club team, which finished third in the nation in 2002 after winning the Georgia and Region III championships.

Johnson has been a member of the Olympic Development Program (ODP) Region III team since 2001 and the Georgia State team since 1998. She participated in the ODP Inter-Regional Tournament in Boca Raton, Fl., and attended the Adidas ESP National Camp in 2002.

"I am thrilled to welcome Kate into our program," said Brian Lee. "She is an excellent student-athlete who should fit in to this program right away. Kate joins sophomore Allie Park (2000-01 N.C. Player-of-the-Year), sophomore Stacy Simpson (2001-02 S.C. Player-of-the-Year), sophomore Andreša Morrison (2003 US Under-17 National Team pool), and junior April Raymer (Region III member) to give us five of the best young backs in the country."

Furman returns nine starters off a squad that finished the 2002 season with a 16-6-1 record as it won its fourth straight SoCon regular season title, its second SoCon Tournament title, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in four seasons.
