FURMAN'S HINSHAW NAMED HIGH SCHOOL ALL AMERICAN

GREENVILLE, SC -- Though she has already completed her freshman season as a college soccer player, Furman women's soccer goalkeeper Andie Hinshaw was named a member of the 2002 NSCAA/adidas High School All American Team last week.

The NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) names its All-America teams each December and players who competed in the preceding fall or spring are eligible for the award. Thus, Hinshaw and a number of college freshman, whose high school season was in the spring were selected as All Americans for their senior year performances.

Hinshaw played high school soccer at Broughton High School in Raleigh, N.C. While a standout at Broughton, Hinshaw led the school to three straight state championships and was named North Carolina Player-of-the-Year as a senior.

Hinshaw had a strong freshman campaign for the Lady Paladins, registering a 1.16 goals against average and recording 77 saves and nine shutouts. Hinshaw's nine shutouts set a new single season school record.

Furman finished the season with a 16-6-1 overall record and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in four seasons.
