FURMAN ROLLS TO 4-0 SHUTOUT OF GEORGIA SOUTHERN

GREENVILLE -- The Furman women's soccer team rolled to a 4-0 victory over Georgia Southern on Friday night to remain undefeated in league play.

Emily Turgeon's goal at the 19:38 mark put the Lady Paladins on top 1-0. Turgeon's shot to the far post deflected off Georgia Southern into the goal.

Turgeon added an assist at the 40:35 mark as her cross to freshman Dre Morrison was headed in for a 2-0 lead.

The Lady Paladins kept the pressure on in the second half as Nicky Darling scored just 52 seconds into the second period. Darling's goal came as Emily Turgeon's throw in was flicked by Tara Marker to Erin Sanders who crossed the ball to Darling. Marker and Sanders were both awarded assists on the play.

Furman's Danielle Petro scored her sixth goal of the season to round out the Furman scoring as she took a cross from Lindsey Facciolo and finished from five yards out at the 56:54 mark. Furman dominated play, outshooting Georgia Southern 29-7 on the night.

"We played very well tonight," said Furman head coach Brian Lee. "We are finally putting some things together and playing up to our potential. We have two big road matches ahead of us next week at Davidson and at UNCG."

With the win, Furman improves to 7-0 in the Southern Conference and can clinch at least a share of the SoCon title with a win over Davidson on Wednesday night. Furman moves to 9-5-1 on the season, while Georgia Southern falls to 9-4-1 overall and 5-2-1 in the Southern Conference. Furman has now won four straight matches, its longest winning streak of the season.
