FURMAN WOMEN'S SOCCER TIES GEORGIA

ATHENS, GA -- The Furman women's soccer team tied Georgia 2-2 in double overtime Friday night in front of 1,679 spectators at the Georgia Soccer Stadium.

After playing much of the first half scoreless, Furman's Melissa Vogel checked into the match and scored at the 42:22 mark. Vogel entered the match for the first time in the 38th minute and scored the go-ahead goal four minutes later as she collected a tapped ball from Tara Marker at the top of the box and scored from six yards out on the right side of the goal box.

Georgia evened the score at the 53:37 mark as Andrea Velasco ripped a shot from 20 yards out to the upper corner of the goal. The Lady Bulldogs then went ahead 2-1 at the 72:01 mark when Ashley King knocked in a saved shot by Elizabeth Methereil.

Furman's Emily Turgeon evened the count at 2-2 as she scored at the 80:29 mark after receiving a pass from Alice Martin.

Each team had several chances to score in the final ten mnutes including a one-on-one opportunity for Georgia's Geneil Newbern against Furman's Andie Hinshaw that sailed just wide right with less than a minute to play.

Furman was playing in its first overtime match of the season, while Georgia was in its fourth. Furman now holds a 4-2-1 record against SEC teams over the past three seasons.

Furman moves to 2-2-1 on the season, while Georgia is now 2-4-1.

Furman returns to action Tuesday night against another SEC foe, South Carolina at 7:00 at Furman's Eugene Stone Soccer Stadium. Georgia will host SoCon foe Georgia Southern on Sunday afternoon at 2:00.
