GEORGETOWN TOPS FURMAN 3-0 IN WOMEN'S SOCCER

GREENVILLE, SC -- The Furman women's soccer team was defeated 3-0 Friday night by Georgetown in the Land Rover/Umbro Kickoff Classic in a match that was called in the 75th minute due to lightning.

Georgetown jumped off to a quick 1-0 lead as Karin Ostrander scored at the 6:24 mark after stealing a ball and drilling a shot from the right side of the box.

The Hoyas extended their lead to 2-0 at the 32:05 mark of the first half with a Courtney Shaub goal off an assist from Ky Holsinger-Johnson.

Georgetown's lead was extended to 3-0 as Shara McNeil knocked in a goal at the 74:17 mark off another Ky Holsinger-Johnson assist.

"We gave up too many soft goals tonight", said Furman head coach Brian Lee. "We also weren't able to finish our chances. When you combine those two things, you don't win too many soccer matches. From 18 to 18 we are playing great, but our box play needs loads of improvement."

Furman falls to 1-2 on the year, while Georgetown moves to 3-3. Furman returns to action Sunday against Coastal Carolina, while Georgetown plays Wofford in the Land Rover/Umbro Kickoff Classic.
