FURMAN DEFEATS ETSU 3-0, ADVANCES TO SECOND ROUND OF SOCON TOURNAMENT

GREENSBORO, NC -- Andre'a Morrison scored a goal and recorded an assist as Furman defeated East Tennessee State 3-0 in the first round of the Southern Conference Women's Soccer Tournament.

Furman began the scoring at the 5:33 mark off an own goal as Andre'a Morrison's shot was redirected into the net by a Lady Bucs defender.

The Lady Paladins extended their lead at the 60:13 mark as Morrison buried a shot in the back of the net after an Alice Martin corner kick slipped through the hands of ETSU goalkeeper Heather Sanden.

Melissa Vogel finished the scoring for Furman at the 68:29 mark as she took a pass from Morrison and netted her third goal of the year.

Furman goalkeeper Andie Hinshaw made four saves to record her eighth shutout of the season, her seventh versus SoCon opponents.

"I am very proud of the way our girls played tonight," said head coach Brian Lee. "We have a lot of talent on this team, and hopefully we will be able to continue to play well the remainder of the weekend."

Furman is now riding a nine match winning streak that dates back to October 11, 2002. Over those nine matches, the Lady Paladins have outscored their opponents 28-3.

Furman improves to 14-5-1, while ETSU falls to 6-11-1. The Lady Paladins return to action on Saturday at 12 p.m. as they face the winner of the Davidson/UNCG match which will be played tomorrow afternoon.
