FURMAN DOWNS ETSU 2-1

GREENVILLE -- The Furman women's soccer team defeated East Tennessee State 2-1 Monday night at Eugene Stone Soccer Stadium.

Furman scored on its first two shot attempts of the night as it tallied two goals in the first 20 minutes of play. Kat Kelleyšs header of a Tara Marker cross put the Lady Paladins on top 1-0 at the 14:34 mark. Sophomore Danielle Petro extended Furmanšs lead to 2-0 at the 18:03 mark as she knocked in a shot from three yards out after receiving a pass from Emily Turgeon.

The Lady Paladins dominated play throughout the match, but was held without another goal for the remainder of the match. The Lady Bucs pulled to within 2-1 at the 74:03 mark on a counter-attack as Erin Ashton scored for ETSU.

For the match, Furman outshot ETSU 23-3 and attempted nine corner kicks to ETSUšs two.

"East Tennessee State played hard tonight," said Furman head coach Brian Lee. "I am disappointed in our desire and intensity though. We need to turn some things around before this season progresses much further."

With the win, Furman improves to 4-3-1 overall and 2-0 in the Southern Conference. ETSU falls to 2-6-1, 1-3-1 in league play. Furman returns to action Thursday when it hosts 17th ranked Charlotte at 7:00, while ETSUšs next match is Friday at Carson-Newman.
