FURMAN WOMEN'S SOCCER DEFEATS DAVIDSON 4-0;
CLINCHES AT LEAST A SHARE OF CONFERENCE TITLE

DAVIDSON, NC -- Furman freshman Tara Marker scored two first half goals as the Furman women's soccer team defeated Davidson 4-0 Wednesday night to clinch at least a share of the Southern Confernece regular season title and the top seed in the SoCon Tournament.

Furman improves to 8-0 in the league as the Lady Paladins still have two SoCon matches to play. With the Davidson loss, Western Carolina (5-1-2) moves into sole possession of second place. Furman defeated Western Carolina 2-1 on October 13.

Tara Marker put Furman on top 1-0 as she took a corner kick at the 23:54 mark from the left corner and bent it into the mouth of the goal where it deflected off a Davidson defender into the net.

Marker then scored her second goal of the night as she connected on a direct kick from 30 yards out at the 37:56 mark.

Furman went ahead 3-0 as April Raymer scored on a penalty kick at the 60:41 mark. Raymer's penalty kick was set up as Emily Turgeon was fouled in the right side of the box.

Freshman Dre Morrison extended the lead to 4-0 at the 64:06 mark when she headed in a Nancy Mather cross.

Furman outshot Davidson 13-7 on the night and attemped six corner kicks to Davidson's two.

"We played well tonight," said Furman head coach Brian Lee. "We still have two more SoCon matches and we need to continue to bring the same level of intensity to those matches."

Furman improves to 10-5-1 on the season, while Davidson falls to 6-8-1 overall and 4-2-1 in the SoCon. Furman returns to action Sunday afternoon at UNC Greensboro at 2:00.

Furman has now outscored Southern Conference foes 30-2 this season and has won its seventh straight in the series against Davidson.
