Furman Women's Soccer Rallies To Defeat Coastal Carolina 4-2

GREENVILLE - The Furman women's soccer team scored four second half goals to come from behind to defeat Coastal Carolina 4-2 Sunday night in the final match of the Land Rover/Umbro Kickoff Classic. The match, originally scheduled for 2:30 p.m., was delayed four and a half hours due to excessive rain.

Coastal Carolina jumped out to a 1-0 halftime lead as Kristen Wise knocked in a loose ball after a Kristina Fisher corner kick 18:29 into the match.

Furman evened the score as Emily Turgeon knocked in a cross from Ashley Murray at the 46:50 mark. Murray then put the Lady Paladins on top 2-1 with a penalty kick goal at the 53:36 mark. The goal was set up as Murray was fouled in the box on an attack.

The Chants evened the score at 2-2 as Kristina Fisher collected a loose ball at the top of the box and her shot was redirected off a Furman defender into the goal.

Junior Danielle Petro knocked in an Emily Turgeon cross at the 78:44 mark to put Furman back on top 3-2. Turgeon beat a defender down the right sideline before sending the cross in front of the goal. A sliding Alice Martin scored Furman's fourth goal at the 84:09 mark as she one-touched an Emily Turgeon pass across the face of the goal. Ashley Murray was also credited with an assist on the play.

"We played with a lot more energy in the second half," said Furman head coach Brian Lee. "I was very disappointed with our performance early, but we fought hard and come away with a much needed victory."

Furman outshot Coastal Carolina 22-10 on the match.
