KATIE CARSON RECEIVES SCHOLAR ATHLETE ALL-AMERICA HONORS

GREENVILLE, SC -- Furman senior Katie Carson was recently named to the NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) Scholar Athlete All-America Second Team.

Carson, a senior from Greensboro, N.C., boasts a 3.42 grade point average as a double major in History and Spanish. She was a four-year starter for the Lady Paladins, scoring seven goals and recording 31 assists over her career. Her 31 assists rank fifth all-time at Furman.

The teams are selected from all collegiate soccer players in all divisions of the NCAA nationwide. To be eligible, each student-athlete must be a junior, have a minimum GPA of 3.3 and be a valuable member of their team.

Carson was a third team NSCAA Scholar Athlete All-America last season.

Furman finished the 2002 season with a 16-6-1 overall record as it claimed its fourth straight Southern Conference regular season title, its second SoCon Tournament title, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in four seasons.
