FURMAN'S BROWNLEE AND TURNER NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT

GREENVILLE, SC -- Furman seniors Kaye Brownlee and Melissa Turner were each named to the 2001 Verizon Academic All-District III Women's University Soccer First Team, an award that recognizes their success in the classroom as well as on the soccer field.

Brownlee, a Health and Exercise Science major with a 3.65 GPA, will graduate Furman as the all-time leader in career assists with 57. In 2001, she scored five goals and notched 10 assists for 20 points on the season.

Turner, a Computer Science/Math major with a 3.45 GPA, is Furman's all-time leader in career goals (50) and points (134). She led the Lady Paladins in scoring this season with 14 goals and six assists for 34 total points.

"Kaye and Melissa are perfect examples of what it means to be a student-athlete," said head coach Brian Lee. "Both work just as hard on the field as they do in the classroom."

The Furman women's soccer team finished the 2001 season 13-7-1.
