FURMAN WOMEN'S SOCCER ROLLS PAST CHATTANOOGA 7-1

GREENVILLE -- Seven different players scored as the Furman women's soccer team downed Chattanooga 7-1 in Southern Conference league action Friday night at Eugene Stone Soccer Stadium as a part of Furmanšs homecoming weekend.

Melissa Turner began the Furman attack at the 3:50 mark of the first half as she headed in a Kathy Gaerter header set up by a Danielle Petro cross for her 11th goal of the season. Natalie Muro scored nine minutes later with a shot from the top of the box after receiving a Turner cross.

Danielle Petro added to her team-leading scoring total as she scored her 13th goal of the season at the 24:16 mark from 20 yards out. Lindsey Facciolo and Emily Turgeon each added goals in the first half to bring Furmanšs lead to 5-0 at the intermission.

Chattanooga scored its lone goal of the day as Lena Thornquist knocked the ball into the back of the net after Furman keeper Melissa Barnes misplayed a ball.

Furman's Cristina Echavarry extended the lead to 6-1 at the 74:54 mark off a cross by Turgeon. Freshman Melissa Vogel netted her first career goal at the 82:42 mark as she turned on her defender and drilled the ball into the goal from eight yards out.

"I was happy with the way we came out and played today," said Furman head coach Brian Lee. "It is great to see so many different players score goals today."

A total of ten players recorded either a goal or an assist on the evening. Furman improves to 9-5-1 on the year, 5-1 in the Southern Conference. Chattanooga falls to 3-10-1 overall, 1-6 in league play. The Lady Paladins host Western Carolina Sunday at 2:00, while UTC travels to Wofford for a Sunday afternoon contest.

Furman is currently ranked 10th in the Southeast Region.
