FURMAN WOMEN'S SOCCER RANKED EIGHTH IN SOUTHEAST

GREENVILLE, SC -- The Furman women's soccer team was picked eighth in the Southeast Region by Soccer Buzz preseason polls.

The Lady Paladins also finished eighth in the 2000 final Southeast Region rankings after compiling a 20-3 record, winning the Southern Conference regular season championship, and making their second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.

Furman's lineup includes eight returning starters from last season's team. Kaye Brownlee is Furman's career assist leader and was a first team All-America selection in 1999. Melissa Turner returns as a two-time member of the All-Southern Conference first team. Also returning is Emily Turgeon who was named last season's Southern Conference Player-of-the-Year and Freshman-of-the-Year after leading the nation in scoring with 23 goals and 17 assists.

The Lady Paladins are currently training in Europe. While overseas, they will visit and play in England, Belgium, and the Netherlands.

Furman opens its 2001 season at the Bayor Labor Day Classic against LaSalle in Waco, Texas on August 31. The first home match of the season is September 6th against Vanderbilt.
