FURMAN'S SHEDD OUT FOR THE SEASON

GREENVILLE, SC -- Furman women's soccer freshman midfielder Kelly Shedd of Simpsonville, S.C., will miss the rest of the 2001 season after sustaining a fractured fibula in the final minutes of Furmanıs match at Baylor last Sunday.

Shedd, a standout at Mauldin High School, will undergo surgery on Thursday to stabilize the fracture site. Shedd started in Furmanıs match against Baylor and played exceptionally well in Furman's preseason trip to Europe.

Shedd will retain freshman status in 2002 as she will redshirt this season.

"Kellyıs injury will force us to make some adjustments," said Furman head coach Brian Lee. "She is an excellent player and I look forward to four solid years out of her beginning next season. Several other players will need to step up and fill that role."

Furman is 1-1 on the season and ranked ninth in the NSCAA South Region poll. The Lady Paladins host Vanderbilt Thursday at 7 p.m. in its home opener.
