FURMAN WOMEN'S SOCCER EARNS TEAM ACADEMIC AWARD FOR SECOND STRAIGHT SEASON

GREEENVILLE, SC -- The Furman women's soccer team received its second consecutive Women's College Team Academic Award from the NSCAA this week.

This award is presented each year by the NSCAA to all athletic teams that earn over a 3.00 GPA. Furman had a combined GPA of 3.17 for the 2000-2001 school year.

Furman was one of four Southern Conference schools to earn the award as Davidson, East Tennessee State, and Georgia Southern were also named. Including the Southern Conference, nine teams from the Southeast Region received the team academic award.

"This award is one of the most important awards that our program can win," said head coach Brian Lee. "This proves that our student-athletes are not only competitve on the field, but in the classroom as well."

Furman finished the 2001 campaign with a 13-7-1 record.
