TRAVELERS REST'S JULIE EINSTEIN TO PLAY SOCCER FOR LADY PALADINS

GREENVILLE, SC -- Furman University women's soccer coach Brian Lee announced the signing of Greenville native Julie Einstein on Wednesday. Einstein joins an incoming freshman class that is touted as one of the best in Furman soccer history.

Einstein has ties to Furman University. Besides living only a few miles from campus, her father, Gilles, is the chair of the university's psychology department.

"Furman was a very comfortable choice when it came to making my college decision," said Einstein. "With my dad there, I think I'll have some idea as to what to expect from Furman, plus, I already feel like I know of lot of people at Furman."

Einstein, currently a senior at Travelers Rest High School, has led the Devildogs in assists in each of her three seasons. She was a three-time selection to the all-conference team and served as team captain as a junior. Einstein earned the team's MVP honor as a freshman and the team's offensive MVP award as a junior.

Einstein is a member of the St. Giles United Storm. She is a five-year starter at center-midfield for the Storm and has helped the team win five consecutive South Carolina state championships. In 1998, her Under-15 team reached the semifinals at the Region III tournament in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Einstein was also a member of the 95/96 South Carolina ODP Team.

"We are looking forward to Julie joining us next fall," said Furman head coach Brian Lee. "It is important for us to continue to attract the best local and state talent to Furman and we feel Julie will have a great four years with our program and in the Furman community."

The Furman women's soccer team finished the 2001 season with a 13-7-1 record after capturing its third consecutive Southern Conference regular season title.
