TURNER'S RECORD SETTING GOALS GIVE LADY PALADINS WIN OVER COASTAL

CONWAY, SC -- Melissa Turner scored three goals in the final 20 minutes of the match to become Furman's all-time leader in goals and points as she paced the Lady Paladins to a 3-1 victory over Coastal Carolina on Sunday afternoon.

Turner now has 39 career goals and 107 career points, passing 2000 graduate Melissa Sutton's 37 goals and 106 points, and notched her fourth career hat-trick with this performance.

After a scoreless first half, Furman fell behind early in the second half on a Coastal Carolina goal.

In the 70th minute of the match, Turner broke free with an unassisted goal to tie the score at 1-1. Turner scored her second goal ten minutes later on assists from Kaye Brownlee and Lindsey Facciolo, and connected again from Facciolo for her third goal in the 83rd minute.

The Lady Paladins outshot Coastal Carolina 23-8 for the match.

"I thought we played a good match," said head coach Brian Lee. "We got plenty of opportunities, but we just couldn't put any away until the end. Melissa Turner showed today why she is such a special player."

Furman will travel to Columbia to take on the Lady Gamecocks on Wednesday in what has become a heated in-state rivalry. That game is scheduled to begin at 7:00.
