FURMAN FALLS TO #7 CLEMSON 2-0

GREENVILLE -- The Furman women's soccer team fell 2-0 to seventh ranked Clemson Tuesday night at Eugene Stone III Soccer Stadium in front of 1,134 spectators.

Clemson scored early as Lindsay Browne knocked in a shot off Furman midfielder Cristina Echavarry at the 10:23 mark to give the Tigers the early advantage. The score remained 1-0 through intermission.

Furman came out much stronger in the second half and had numerous opportunities to even the score but was unable to capitalize. The Lady Paladins forced the ball endline and failed to connect on a number of crosses as well as one vs. one chances with Clemson's keeper Katie Carson.

The seventh ranked Tigers maintained the slim 1-0 lead and put the match away at the 87:17 mark as Cindy Mullinix ripped a shot to the upper corner of the goal after receiving a cross from Paige Ledford.

Furman attempted six corner kicks to Clemson's three, while Clemson outshot Furman 14-8 on the night.

"We didn't take advantage of our chances," said Furman head coach Brian Lee. "I thought we played well tonight, but against a team as good as Clemson, you have to find a way to score."

The loss broke a 22 match home regular season winning streak for the Lady Paladins at Eugene Stone Stadium. The loss was also its fourth of the season, the most losses Furman has suffered since 1998. Furman falls to 7-4-1 on the season, while Clemson improves to 8-1.

Furman returns to action this weekend at Appalachian State on Friday and at East Tennessee State on Sunday.
