FURMAN WOMEN'S SOCCER TIES CHARLOTTE 1-1

CHARLOTTE, NC -- The Furman women's soccer team battled Charlotte to a 1-1 tie Thursday night at Transamerica Field in Charlotte, N.C.

After a scoreless 84 minutes of soccer, each team scored in a 53 second time span late in the second half. Furman got on the board first with a Kaye Brownlee goal at the 84:35 mark. The play was set up as Danielle Petro's corner kick was headed back into the box by Melissa Turner and headed out by a 49er defender. The cleared header was sent directly to Brownlee in the box, who collected and scored.

Charlotte didn't waste any time evening the score, as Mikel Casey scored at the 85:28 mark. Her shot from the right corner of the box deflected in off Furman defender Allie Park.

Furman's Danielle Petro had the best opportunity to score in either overtime period as she beat three 49er defenders and ripped a shot from 20 yards out that sailed inches over the goal in the 98th minute.

Furman goalkeeper Melissa Barnes made 12 saves on the match.

Furman entered the match ranked tenth in the NSCAA Southeast region poll, while Charlotte was ranked ninth.
