FURMAN WOMEN'S SOCCER NAMES BURR ASSISTANT COACH

GREENVILLE Furman women's soccer coach Brian Lee announced the hiring of Andrew Burr as the program's new assistant coach, replacing Laura Wise, who served as the Lady Paladins' assistant for three seasons.

Burr, a 1991 graduate of Furman University, was a key member of Furman's men's soccer team from 1987-1990. He is second on the all-time charts in career goals and career points with 50 goals and 19 assists for 119 points. He was the 1990 Southern Conference Player-of-the-Year after leading the conference in scoring with 19 goals and two assists for 40 points. Burr also led the Southern Conference in scoring as a kicker for the Paladin football team in 1991.

Burr, a native of Atlanta, has been a volunteer assistant coach for the past four seasons for the Lady Paladins, and was a teammate of Furman head coach Brian Lee.

"I'm excited about the addition of Andrew to our staff," said Lee. "He has a great knowledge of the game of soccer, and will continue to prove extremely helpful to our program."

Burr spent seven years working as the director of sales and marketing for Umbro in Greenville. During that time, he served as liaison between the Furman University and Umbro, a sponsor of the men's and women's soccer programs. Burr also coaches in the St. Giles Club program in the under-17 age group.

The Lady Paladins finished the 2001 campaign with a 13-7-1 record and their third straight Southern Conference regular season championship.
