WACO, TEXAS -- The Furman women's soccer team lost in the final match of the Baylor Labor Day Classic to host Baylor by the score of 4-0.
Baylor junior Barbara Torres opened the scoring against the Lady Paladins with an unassisted goal 8:14 into the first half. Torres knocked a long shot over the head of Furman goalkeeper Melissa Barnes to give the Bears a 1-0 lead.
Baylor added to the lead less than 20 minutes later as sophomore Candace Reilly placed a similar shot past Barnes to push the lead to 2-0.
The Bears then tacked on two more goals in the second half. Ginny Rosario-Tull scored on a penalty kick and Emily Fukuchi made it 4-0 by knocking in a through ball from Ryan Lee.
"The effort was there tonight, and Baylor is a good team," said head coach Brian Lee. "We just can't give up goals like that early in the match."
The Lady Paladins return home for a match against SEC opponent Vanderbilt on Thursday at 7:00 at Eugene Stone III Soccer Stadium.
