PETRO NAMED SOCON PLAYER OF THE WEEK

GREENVILLE, SC -- Furman freshman forward Danielle Petro has been named the first Southern Conference Player of the Week for the 2000 season.

A freshman from Lilburn, GA, Petro became the first player in Furman womenıs soccer history to record a hat trick in her first collegiate appearance as she scored three times in Furmanıs 8-0 shutout of East Tennessee State. She is only the third Furman freshman to score a hat trick during her rookie season. Petro scored her first goal with 27 seconds left in the first half and scored the first goal of the second half. Her third goal was an unassisted run at the 60:54 mark.

"It was a great start to her career," said Furman head coach Brian Lee. "I am looking forward to more great things from Danielle."

Furman, the preseason favorite to win the Southern Conference, is 1-0 after its season opener. The Lady Paladins face Georgetown Tuesday at 4 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
