FURMAN WOMEN'S SOCCER PACES SOCON PRESEASON TEAM

GREENVILLE, SC -- The Furman women's soccer team placed five players on the Southern Conference preseason all-league team, it was announced today.

Forward Melissa Turner, midfielders Kaye Brownlee and Katie Carson, and defenders Lauren Killey and Bridgett Giles made up the Furman continent. All five players were selected as all-conference a year ago.

Kaye Brownlee was the 1999-2000 Southern Conference female athlete-of-the-year and was a first team All American pick a year ago. Melissa Turner tied for the team lead in goals scored in 1999 with 13 goals. Katie Carson teams with Brownlee in the middle of the field as a central midfielder. Bridgett Giles and Lauren Killey anchor Furmanıs record setting defense as marking backs.

Furman returns nine starters and all seven all-conference picks from last year. They also welcome a strong freshman class, headlined by forwards Emily Turgeon and Danielle Petro.

The Lady Paladins open the season August 26 against East Tennessee State at Eugene Stone III Soccer Stadium.
