FURMAN'S TURGEON FINISHES REGULAR SEASON TOPS IN NATION

GREENVILLE, SC -- Furman women's soccer freshman Emily Turgeon finished the 2000 regular season as the nation's leader in total points and points per match. She has led the nation for the last five weeks in total points.

Turgeon, a freshman from Raleigh, N.C., has notched 59 points on 21 goals and 17 assists this season. She also leads the nation in points per match with an average of 3.11 points per match. Turgeon has a 12 point lead over her closest competition in total points.

Last week, Turgeon scored twice to pace Furman over South Carolina 3-1.

Turgeon's 59 points is a Furman single season record, as is her 21 goals. She is only two assists away from tying the Furman single season assist record.

Joining Turgeon among the national scoring leaders is teammate Melissa Turner. Turner is fifth in the nation in total points with 46 and tenth in points per match with a 2.42 average. Turner has scored 18 goals this season and recorded 10 assists.

The Lady Paladins are third in the nation in scoring with an average of 4.05 goals per match and have already set the Furman single season scoring mark with 77 goals.

Furman is 18-1 on the season and ranked 13th in the nation by the American Soccer Writers and 14th by Soccer Buzz. The Lady Paladins are the No. 1 seed in the Southern Conference Tournament this weekend in Charleston, S.C. Furman will play Appalachian State in the first round of the tournament on Thursday, November 2.
