The Lady Paladins fell behind late in the first half on a Heather Maloney goal just before the break. Trailing 1-0 for most of the second half, Furman captains Kaye Brownlee and Sarah Tollick connected on a pass down the sideline. Tollick then found freshman Emily Turgeon in the middle of the box to score the tying goal with only seven minutes remaining.
As both teams tried in desperation to prevent overtime, Turgeon broke free in the last minute and slid the game-winning goal past Davidson goalkeeper Winnie Corrigan, with only 28 seconds to play in the match. For Turgeon, her pair of goals were her 15th and 16th of the season, continuing on the pace that has put her first in the nation in points.
"There is always a sense of drama when we meet Davidson," said Furman head coach, Brian Lee. "Last season it was four overtimes, today it was a goal in the last minute. It was a good win for us, but now our focus has to shift to UNCG on Monday."
The Lady Paladins improve their record to 15-1 overall and 7-0 in the Southern Conference. For Furman it is their 19th consecutive Southern Conference win. Davidson falls to 10-5 overall and 3-2 in conference play.
Furman continues it's three game road trip on Monday against conference opponent UNC-Greensboro. The Lady Paladins will then travel to Spartanburg to play Wofford on Thursday,
