Furman Blanks Chattanooga 8-0

Chattanooga, Tenn. -- The Furman women's soccer team scored eight second half goals after a scoreless first half to rout Chattanogga 8-0 Friday night.

Melissa Sutton and Melissa Turner each scored three goals to lead the offensive attack. Melissa Sutton recorded her third career hat trick, while it was Turner's first hat trick of her career. Also contributing to the scoring were Michelle Muro and Lindsey Facciolo who each scored a goal. Sarah Tollick andKatie Carson each had two assists, while Kaye Brownlee had three assists on the night for the Lady Paladins.

In the first half, UTC had two good scoring opportunities, but Furman goalkeeper Melissa Barnes made a diving save on a shot by Makini Wall and a shot by Tiffin Ashworth drilled the crossbar. At halftime, the Mocs were outshot 11-2. In the second half, Furman outshot UTC 17-1.

The defeat drops Chattanooga to 3-10-1 on the season and 0-8 in the Southern Conference.

Furman improves to 11-2 overall and 5-0. The Lady Paladins are ranked 8th in the Southeast Region by both the NSCAA and Soccer Buzz. Furman hosts Davidson Tuesday in a matchup of the Southern Conference's only two remaining unbeatens.
