Furman Women's Soccer Downs South Florida

Jacksonville, FL -- The Furman women's soccer team remained undefeated Thursday as they downed South Florida 3-1 in the opening match of the Jacksonville Legends Tournament.

After falling behind 1-0 on a Siri Nordby goal in the match's eighth minute, the Lady Paladins rallied to tie the match with less than two minutes remaining before halftime on a Kaye Brownlee goal.

Furman came out and controled the second half, capitalizing on two early chances. Furman's all-time leading scorer Melissa Sutton scored her second game-winning goal of the season five minutes into the second half off a Kathy Gaertner pass. The Lady Paladins extended their lead five minutes later as freshman Katie Carson scored her first collegiate goal off a Sarah Tollick, Kathy Gaertner double assist at the 55:11 mark to increase the Furman lead to 3-1.

Furman outshot South Florida 14-11 on the match.

The Lady Paladins improve to 2-0 on the season, while South Florida falls to 1-2.
