Furman Women's Soccer Downs Georgia Southern 3-0;
Ties Records for Wins, Shutouts, Individual Goals

Statesboro, GA -- The Furman women's soccer team defeated Georgia Southern 3-0 Friday afternoon to remain undefeated in the Southern Conference with a 7-0 league mark. The Lady Paladins can clinch at least a share of the SoCon regular season title with a win next Wednesday over Appalachian State.

Furman opened the scoring in the first half as Lindsey Facciolo drilled in a diving shot nine minutes into the match off a Kaye Brownlee assist. The assist was Brownlee's 13th of the season.

The Lady Paladins opened the second half strong as Brownlee curved a direct kick from the top of the box around the Georgia Southern wall and into the left corner of the goal at the 61:49 mark. Ten minutes later, Melissa Turner sealed the victory with her 11th goal of the season. Turner took a long Lauren Killey pass, beat two Eagle defenders and finished the play to tie the Furman single season goal record. Turner ties the mark set by current senior Melissa Sutton in 1996 and Leah Versteegen last season.

"We took another big step toward winning the Southern Conference today," said Furman head coach Brian Lee. "With two matches to play, we have to stay focused and win. A number of players played well today. We should be proud of the performance."

Georgia Southern outshot Furman on the afternoon 12-9, but the Lady Paladin defense came up strong for their seventh shutout of the season, tying a school record for shutouts.

Furman improves to 13-2 overall and ties the single season victory mark set with last season's 13-8 season. Georgia Southern falls 7-7 overall, 4-3 in the conference. The Lady Paladins won their third straight match against Georgia Southern but claimed their first ever victory in Statesboro.
