FURMAN WOMEN'S SOCCER SIGNS FIFTH RECRUIT

GREENVILLE, SC -- Furman head women's soccer coach Brian Lee announced the signing of Cary Blount, the fifth member of his 1999 class, on Wednesday.

"I am thrilled to welcome Cary to our program," said Lee. "She is a fine athlete and I expect her, along with the rest of our freshman class, to make invaluable contributions to the program over the next four years."

Blount is from Brentwood, Tenn. and has attended Mission Mountain School in Montana for the past two seasons. She was invited to attend the National Olympic Development Program (ODP) Team tryouts in 1995 and has been a three time Tennessee State ODP Team member and a member of the Region III Team. Blount is a member of the Music City Lady Sting club team, which she has helped guide to five Tennessee State Championships and five Region III semifinal appearances. She is the sister of current Furman men's soccer goalkeeper Scott Blount and will enter the fall as a midfielder.

Blount joins Kristen Brexel, Katie Carson, Andrea Brown, and Jessica Anucinski as signed recruits for 1999. With 10 starters and seven all-conference selections returning, Furman looks to be one of the early favorites to challenge for the Southern Conference title in 1999. Furman is coming off a 13-8 season in which it finished second in both the Southern Conference Tournament and the regular season.
