GREENVILLE, SC -- Furman's Leah Versteegen was selected as
Southern Conference player-of-the-week Monday after recording four goals
and two assists on the week, including a hat trick against Georgia Southern.
Furman won all three of its matches this week, extending its winning streak to eight matches and improving its record to 10-3 overall, 6-0 in the Southern Conference.
Versteegen record a goal and an assist in a 3-2 win over Wofford on Tuesday, but severly sprained her ankle in the second half. After spending two days on crutches, Versteegen played against Georgia Southern on Friday, scoring all three goals in a 3-1 victory. Versteegen then recorded an assist in a 1-0 victory over Appalachian State on Sunday.
Versteegen became Furman's all-time leading scorer this week as
well. She now has 25 career goals and 22 career assists for 72 points.
She is also leading the Southern Conference in scoring this season with
10 goals and 7 assists for 27 points. Versteegen has been on a tear
during Furman's winning streak. She has recorded seven goals and
six assists in the last eight matches, all Furman victories. She
is currently only one goal shy of the Furman single season goal record.
