Furman Set To Host SoCon Tournament

GREENVILLE, SC -- Furman University will host the 1998 Southern Conference Women's Soccer Tournament on Saturday, November 7 and Sunday, November 8. Two up-state teams, the host Lady Paladins and the Wofford Lady Terriers will be participating.

The first semifinal match, slated for Saturday at 5 p.m. will feature fifth seeded Wofford and top seeded UNC Greensboro. Wofford is 10-10 and advanced to the semifinals by virtue of a 1-0 victory over Davidson in the first round. UNC Greensboro is 11-8-1 and coming off a 9-0 first round victory over East Tennessee State. The Lady Spartans claimed their second Southern Conference title this season and are now a perfect 15-0 in two seasons of league play. UNCG defeated Wofford 3-1 earlier this season.

The second semifinal match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Saturday and will feature host Furman, seeded second, and third seeded Georgia Southern. The Lady Paladins hold a conference-best 12-7 overall record and advanced by virtue of a 3-0 first round victory over College of Charleston. Georgia Southern holds a 10-9 overall record and travel to Greenville after a 6-1 defeat of Appalachian State. Furman defeated Georgia Southern 3-1 earlier this season.

The winner of the two semifinals will meet in the championship match at 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 8. The Southern Conference Tournament Champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Pairings for the tournament will be announced at 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 8.

Ticket prices are $3 for adults and $1 for students, faculty, and children under 12.
