Kaye Brownlee Selected as First Team Freshman All American

GREENVILLE, SC -- Furman women's soccer freshman Kaye Brownlee has been selected to the Soccer Buzz Freshman All-America First Team earning her recognition as one of the top 12 freshman in the nation.

Brownlee, a midfielder from Kennesaw, Ga., received regional recognition from Soccer Buzz earlier in the week as she was selected as a member of the All-Southeast Region Second Team and joined teammate Melissa Barnes on the Southeast Region All-Freshman Team. Brownlee was also the Southern Conference's freshman-of-the-year, was a first team All-Southern Conference selection, and was a third team NSCAA/Umbro Southeast Region selection. This is her first national honor.

Brownlee finished the season second in the nation in assists per match, while setting a school record with 35 points off eight goals and 19 assists. Brownlee's 19 assists give her the third highest assist total for a freshman in NCAA Division I history, trailing only Notre Dame's Holly Manthei (30) and Jenny Streiffer (22).

"To see these awards keep coming in like they are is exciting for Kaye and for our team," said Furman head coach Brian Lee. "Kaye had a great season and I believe she is truly one of the top freshman in the country, as is demonstrated by this honor."

Brownlee was joined on the Freshman All-America First Team by Southeast Region players Danielle Borgman of North Carolina and Abby Wambach of Florida, each of whom competed in the NCAA Division I National Championship match.
