Furman Women's Soccer Defeats Presbyterian

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman women's soccer team defeated Presbyterian 1-0 Tuesday night at Eugene Stone Stadium behind a second half goal by senior Leah Versteegen.

After a scoreless first half that featured eight Furman shots to Presbyterian's zero, the Lady Paladins were finally able to put the ball in the net as Leah Versteegen knocked in a Kaye Brownlee corner kick with a header.

For the match, the Lady Paladins outshot the Blue Hose 16-1 and controlled much of the match. Presbyterian's defense, though, kept the Blue Hose alive for much of the match.

"I was pleased with our performance today," said Furman head coach Brian Lee. "Presbyterian is a tough team and we played well, despite only scoring one goal."

Furman improves to 2-1, while Presbyterian falls to 0-1 on the season. The Lady Paladins will host the Umbro Kickoff Classic this weekend with matches against Buffalo on Friday at 7 p.m. and Georgia State on Saturday at 7 p.m.
