Kaye Brownlee Selected To All-Southeast Region Team

GREENVILLE, SC -- Furman women's soccer freshman Kaye Brownlee was named to the NSCAA Southeast Region Third Team on Tuesday.

Brownlee, who finished the season second in the nation in assists per match, becomes the second Lady Paladin to receive this award. Defender Liz Bielefeld ('94-'97) was recognized as a member of region's third team a year ago.

Brownlee led the Lady Paladins to a 13-8 overall record with a school record 35 points off eight goals and 19 assists. In addition, Brownlee's 19 assists give her the third highest assist total for a freshman in NCAA Division I history, trailing only Notre Dame's Holly Manthei (30) and Jenny Streiffer (22). Brownlee was also recognized as the Southern Conference's freshman-of-the-year and was a first team All-Southern Conference selection.

"Kaye had an excellent season, especially for a freshman," said Furman head coach Brian Lee. "She was one of our team leaders this season and is certainly deserving of this recognition."

Florida led the region with five first team selections, while defending national champion North Carolina had three first team selections. The Tar Heels led with a total of seven recipients on the three teams. Southern Conference foe UNC Greensboro put two on the all-region teams.
