Furman Women Rake in SoCon Honors

GREENVILLE, SC -- The Furman women's soccer team saw six players receive All-Southern Conference recognition as Friday night's Southern Conference banquet at Furman University's Timmons Arena. As well as receiving the most all-conference recipients of any conference team, Furman earned coach-of-the-year and freshman-of-the-year honors as Brian Lee and Kaye Brownlee were recognized respectively.

Brownlee leads the nation in assists with 18 and has broken Furman single season records for points (34) and assists (18). Joining Brownlee on the first team were freshmen Lauren Killey and Melissa Barnes, along with senior Leah Versteegen. Freshman Melissa Turner and sophomore Bridgett Giles earned second team honors. In all, Furman placed three freshman on the first team and a fourth on the second team.

Lee earned coach of the year honors after guiding the Lady Paladins to a 12-7 overall record, the best in the Southern Conference. Conference champion UNCG placed a total of five players on the two teams.
