GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman scored three second half goals the women's soccer team defeated Appalachian State 3-0 Sunday at Eugene Stone Soccer Stadium.
Melissa Sutton scored the first goal of the match off a cross by Bridgett Giles and pass by Sarah Tollick at the 60:25 mark in the second half. Leah Versteegen widened the Lady Paladin lead at the 78:10 mark in the first half off a corner kick by Liz Bielefeld. Bielefeld then added the game's final goal off a direct kick in the matchÕs closing seconds.
Furman controled the entire match, including the scoreless first half and outshot the Mountaineers 23-6.
"It's nice to get another win under our belt," said Furman head coach Brian Lee. "Appalachian State played us tough, but we came through with an excellent second half."
The win vaults Furman to 11-6-1 overall, 3-3 Southern Conference, while Appalachian Satte falls to 4-7-2, 2-3-1 SoCon. Furman will play its final home match of the season this Wednesday at 7:00 against Davidson.
