Five Lady Paladins Named All-Southern Conference

Davidson, N.C. -- Five Lady Paladins were named to one of two All-Southern Conference teams Friday night in Davidson, N.C. Furman's five members were second only to league champion, UNC Greensboro.

Melissa Sutton and Liz Bielefeld were each named to the first team. Bielefeld, a senior from Columbia, Md., started every match in her Furman career and currently ranks as Furman's all-time leading scorer. Liz was also the Lady Paladins' leading scorer this season, with nine goals and seven assists. Melissa Sutton, a sophomore from Raleigh, N.C., scored eight goals and had eight assists this season. In addition, Melissa recorded five match-winning goals for the Lady Paladins.

Juniors Leah Versteegen and Jen McNutt, along with freshman Diana Poore were named to the second team. Versteegen, from Charlotte, N.C., scored seven goals on the year at the midfield position. Jen McNutt, from Pleasanton, Calif., was selected as one of three goalkeepers on the squad. McNutt currnently ranks fourth in the region with a 0.89 Goals Against Average. Diana Poore, from Coral Springs, Fla., had a stellar year at sweeper and was rewarded as one of only four freshman on the all-conference squads. Poore started every match for Furman and controled the team's defense.
