FURMAN MEN'S SOCCER DOWNS WOFFORD 4-1

GREENVILLE - Furman senior Scott Hoch recorded his second career hat trick as the Furman men's soccer team defeated Wofford 4-1 Tuesday evening at Eugene Stone Soccer Stadium.

The win was Furman's 16th straight against Wofford and it extended Furman's NCAA record conference unbeaten streak to 46 matches.

Furman jumped out to an early 1-0 as Scott Hoch headed home a Clint Dempsey cross at the 10:02 mark of the first half. Wofford found the equalizer, though, before the intermission as Sam Moore headed in a Jesus Arroyo-Peco at the 37:56 mark. The score remained 1-1 through the end of the first half.

Furman's Clint Dempsey put the Paladins on top 2-1 as he started a flurry of three Furman goals in five minutes. Dempsey's goal was scored from three yards out and came off a Jon Rydarowski pass at the 64:47 mark.

Hoch then scored his second goal of the night 51 seconds later to put Furman ahead 3-1 as he took a McNeil Cronin long ball and headed it past Wofford keeper Philip Trotter. Hoch added his third goal of the night at the 69:07 mark to give Furman the 4-1 victory.

"We played a sluggish first half," said Furman head coach Doug Allison. "But we came out and played better in the second. It was nice to see us put together a string of three goals in a short period of time."

The win improves Furman to 3-5-3 on the season and 1-0-2 in Southern Conference play. Wofford falls to 2-10 overall and 0-3 in the Southern Conference.

Furman will travel to face SoCon foe College of Charleston next Tuesday night.
